Trauma Informed Care: Understanding & Responding to Trauma Reactions in Youth
Dr. Beale will introduce how brain research has influenced our field in the last decade. Reflecting on the work of Bruce Perry regarding key brain concepts, we’ll review how factors like poverty, neglect and trauma make it very difficult to intervene successfully with our clients. By increasing our understanding of their reactivity, reviewing strategies to manage crises, and following a specific sequence in treatment, providers will learn how to support and heal wounded brains.
Lunch (on your own)
Secondary Traumatic Stress: Strategies for the Helpers
Utilizing guidelines from the National Child Traumatic Stress Network, Dr. Beale will define Secondary Traumatic Stress/Compassion Fatigue. She will identify strategies to build resiliency and address Compassion Fatigue, first at the organizational level, then at the personal level, for both prevention and intervention in working with adolescents.

Join us at OMNI Youth Services this summer to participate in an exhilarating and creative summer of self-expression as we create theatre based on the issues and ideas you contribute! What: The Summer Theatre Workshop will serve as the training period for the members of the REALITY Theatre Troupe for the 2013-2014 school year. We will develop and polish performance skills through theatre games, improvisation and ensemble building exercises. We will identify and explore issues relevant to today’s teenagers, and will write and create material for performances based on our own stories. We will shape this material into performance pieces which we will present at local schools throughout the upcoming school year. We’ll take a few exciting field trips as well.
Who: Interested teens, grades 9-12, who must pledge to be completely substance free (i.s. cigarettes, alcohol, drugs) and to make healthy life choices. NO PRIOR THEATRE EXPERIENCE IS NECESSARY! You just need a desire to participate!

Public-private partnerships can transform communities and change lives. The partnership between The Allstate Foundation and OMNI Youth Services is an example of how two organizations can come together to deliver sustainable change. For nearly 30 years Allstate has supported OMNI’s mission of partnering with parents and the community to develop responsible youth and strengthen families.
“Allstate is committed to the safety and wellbeing of future generations and our support of OMNI helps to ensure that all youth have the opportunity to overcome challenges, walk down the aisle at graduation, learn valuable skills, stay safe and enjoy life’s greatest successes,”said Shayna Schulz, vice president at Allstate. “We partner with OMNI because they have a staff dedicated to getting superior results and helping change the life-trajectory of local teens.”
Over the years, support from corporations such as Allstate has been instrumental in filling unmet community needs in essential services,” said Jay Meyer, executive director of OMNI Youth Services. “In the face of challenging economic times, this funding enables us to provide high quality, life changing counseling and support services customized for each young person we serve. Together, OMNI and Allstate have positively affected more than 46,000 teen lives.”
Contributing to OMNI’s success with young people is its Journey Wilderness Therapy Program which enriches the counseling experience by actively involving the teen in action, treatment and reflection. Of those participating in OMNI experiential programing last year, 92% of teens achieved 80% of their treatment goals, an 85% improvement over state-wide averages for completion rates. Additionally, 79% decreased or ceased their substance use altogether, a 126% improvement over state-wide averages for decreasing/eliminating usage.
