Youth Mentor Program
OMNI’s Youth Mentor Program (YMP) is designed to bring younger people together with caring adults in a structured and trusting relationship. Mentors offer guidance through role modeling, support and encouragement aimed at developing competencies and character in the youth. YMP assigns an adult volunteer to work one-on-one with a youth between the ages of 10-17 to work towards goals such as improving social skills, developing positive and respectful relationships with adults and peers, and improving academic performance and behavior. The program also follows a monthly curriculum that is incorporated into all sessions. Monthly topics include: violence and aggression, community skills, self esteem, alcohol awareness, and stress and coping skills.
OMNI’s Youth Mentor Program is considered “group mentoring.” All mentors and mentees will meet as a group to create a structured and fun environment in which youth can work on improving their social skills and developing relationship with their peers. Youth participate in team building activities that increase self-esteem, teach communication skills and encourages creative thinking. Mentors and mentees come together as a group; however, there is designated time for the mentor and mentee to have their individual one-on-one time.
