Power of Family: An Experiential Approach to Family Treatment

From their recently published book, the authors will discuss and demonstrate activities, which provide an immediate context for witnessing how the family functions first-hand. Additionally, these activities allow the family to re-work structures and systems that historically have not worked for them and to find new strategies for success.

About the Trainers

John Conway, LCSW, CADC

Gary Stauffer, LMSW

Tony Alvarez, MSW
John Conway, LCSW, CADC has been with OMNI for over 19 years, working with families to create positive, lasting change. John coordinated the Journey program, OMNI’s adventure therapy model for many years and currently serves as the Chief Business Development and Communications Officer.
Gary Stauffer, LMSW, is a clinical social worker at the Family Assessment Clinic where he specializes in working with children, youth and families. He has extensive experience in both mental health and school settings, including ten years in a day treatment program for youth with severe emotional impairment.
Tony Alvarez, MSW, lectures at the University of Michigan and is the school’s point person for the use of experiential, adventure and wilderness approaches to social work practice. Professor Alvarez’s research focuses on the design of effective experiential and adventure based programs for social workers in multiple settings and with diverse populations.
